Welcome to Garden Valley Title I

What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program to make sure all students have the opportunity to succeed in reading and math. Intensive supplemental instruction is provided for students who qualify. Research based instruction is used by a qualified teacher or paraprofessional and progress is carefully monitored. Students are expected to progress at a faster rate with the help of Title I instruction.

Who will teach my child?

Hello! I am Barb Sulfridge, Garden Valley's Title I teacher. I have 24 years experience teaching students from kindergarten through 6th grade. I received my Master's Degree in Early Childhood from Boise State University. I am also a Boise State Writing Project fellow, and learned much about reading and writing from Dr. Jeffry Wilhelm. Either I or a certified paraprofessional will be working with your child in reading and/or math. Paraprofessionals have had training in working with Title I students. I will be meeting with mty paraprofessional at least once a week. We offer a team approach, and I meet with my supervisor, Pam Doyle, and our special education teacher, Pauleen Grant each week to discuss student progress and how to best meet individual student needs.

How are Title I Students Identified?

About the video:

This video shows how Garden Valley Elementary uses school-wide benchmark testing to see if students might
benefit from additional services in Reading or Mathematics. If your child is identified as needing extra help in
either of these areas, you will be notified and part of a team to help your child succeed.
